So why did I choose this particular topic - overthinking?
Well it seems to be at epidemic proportions ....and it seems to be particularly dominant in those over 40 - it is one of the most common patterns I see in people who are stuck overwhelmed anxious depressed and in that dreaded midlife crisis
It is the main reasons people are incapable of moving forward ... most people have no idea how much it affects them and how much they actually are overthinking ... there is always a yeah but ...
I get it 100% I have been in my life the worst overthinker and discovered the hard way exactly what it was costing me.....
The reality is if you could think your way out of the problems you think you have by now....
The other reality is you cant change a situation with the same thinking that created it. You have to get out of that space for a solution to come
And that's just the mental cost
Add to that the physiological effect.... most people don't realise
Every emotion has a chemical expression in the body and what happens is our receptors become accustomed to those chemicals being released and as a result start to crave more and more of it.... you effectively become addicted to the emotions and the thoughts that create those emotions so you create this constant feedback loop
Think of a drama queen, they are literally addicted to the emotions the drama creates so they go about creating dramas to feed their addiction and they are COMPLETELY oblivious to the fact they do this, it is of course, everybody else doing it to them
Overthinking is literally just endless loops of the same stuff repeating over and over in your head keeping you stuck
This is a process I use a lot in my sessions specifically for overthinking
it is simple, highly effective and very very calming... by the end of the process you will be in a completely different space... you will be solution focused and actually feel possibilities around you and be open to them.
I've had so many requests for a recorded version that clients could listen to at home, and while the ones in session are highly personalised I thought I would do a generic one and make it available for everyone. So here it is.
There are actually 2 processes in this download. The first process which you experience in the first 3minutes stops overthinking
instantly - you will experience this wonderful still point... and you will be amazed at how simple it actually it is.
This is a state you want to remember ... you really want to get into the experience of it as it will be much easier to practice it when you are moving about in your life and once you do, practice it everywhere you can. In the shower, at the traffic lights, in line at the checkout...where ever you can and as soon as you notice your thoughts getting caught up in that loop again bring yourself back into that still point.
Now a bit of reality.....There will be days when it will be easy to remember to do this and days when it will be harder - this is normal it is those days which are hard that will determine your success... those are the days your body will be craving that chemical fix and like an addict it will fight with you tooth and nail to get it.... It will throw all sorts of reason as to why you should give up... that its not working....I cant be bothered.... its too hard .....my situations different its never ending ..... All these things are happening.....it is normal just keep going and don't despair when you get off track just start again... sooner or later all the work you are doing will start to pay off... sort of like going to the gym...where it can take weeks before you notice a change in shape and then one day - wow!
Now the second process expands on the first by taking advantage of the silence and lack of negative thoughts & emotion to start opening up to the possibilities around you...we also use this process to build & cement positive neural pathways and chemical expressions in your body making it easier to come back to this place voluntarily. What we are trying to achieve is a place within you that is safe and peaceful despite everything going on around you.... you are your own best friend
Another benefit of the audio is you can listen to it whenever you need to .....you can't overdo it . If you have a stressful day at work then listen to it before you start the drive home so you don't spend your travel time caught up in the angst of the day and ruminating over it... use the drive to clear your thinking and reset your mood. This is just one example of how to use this in everyday life
